Pillar 1

Fundamentals

These are the core skills that act as the foundation that high quality low brass playing is built upon. It is crucial that students model fundamentals correctly as bad habits are hard to break.

Pillar 2

Student Materials

These keep lessons relevant to what the student is actively learning outside of lessons. This part of private lessons addresses what the student is most concerned about.

Pillar 3

Pocket Orchestra

We are commissioning this collection of works to best support private students to learn to apply foundational skills in the most engaging format possible.

Student Driven Materials

The Challenges Your Student Faces Each Week.

Student-focused low brass instruction
Audition Preparation

Building confidence in audition materials is one of the most important aspects of private lessons. We strive to ensure students succeed in their aspirations outside of the lesson context.

School Ensemble Music

Students often need help turning band music into something more polished and secure. Lessons will support classroom repertoire while building stronger habits at the same time.

Excerpts

Outside of an audition or ensemble context, excerpts serve students as extensively studied and documented sections of ensemble music in which standard approaches to playing can be discussed.

Scales

Musical Scales are the foundation for playing every melody. Whether we review arpeggios, major, or minor scales preparing these patterns are extremely important in private lessons.

Pocket Orchestra series

Commissioned Repertoire Unlike Anything Else.

The Pocket Orchestra series is intended to give students a unique curriculum beyond what is seen in a standard private lesson. Low Brass Lessons provides access to solo works that we’ve commissioned specifically for use in lessons given through our studio, which have been written with developing students in mind.

Curriculum Questions

Helpful Context For Families.

Does every lesson follow the same exact plan?

No. The curriculum is structured around consistent priorities, but it should still adapt to the student’s needs for the lesson. Our skilled instructors will serve as guides for what material should be covered in each lesson.

Will lessons still focus on fundamentals if a student is preparing specific music?

Yes. Every lesson will touch on the fundamentals of playing the instrument. All other materials sit on top of the fundamentals, so students are improving both the immediate material and the underlying skills that support it.

What makes Pocket Orchestra different from regular repertoire?

It is a dedicated curriculum that serves students who take lessons through our studio. This collection of pieces is built to provide students with a musical experience they will be excited to showcase and practice.

Do private lessons really need a dedicated curriculum?

Absolutely! Under our model students never stagnate and constantly develop musical expression for as long as they’re enrolled in lessons.
